What is a Smart Warehouse and What are its Benefits?

The smart warehouse is a term that refers to a warehouse that uses automation technology. Smart warehousing is a growing trend that is being adopted by many companies. The main goal of smart warehousing is to reduce costs and increase efficiency.

What is AGV robot?

AGV stands for Automated Guided Vehicle. AGVs are autonomous vehicles that can be programmed to follow a predetermined path. These vehicles are used in warehouses, factories, and other industrial settings to transport materials from one location to another. Types of AGVs

There are many different types of AGVs, each designed to meet the specific needs of the customer. The most common types include:

Automated Guided Cart (AGC)

Automated Guided Carts (AGCs) are a great choice if you want to automate a high-traffic area where people tend to stop and browse. AGCs are ideal for warehouse applications, but they can also be used in office environments. They can move quickly through space and are often used for transporting materials.

Automated Tow Tractors

Automated Tow Tractor (ATT) systems use a tow cable that attaches to the AGV to pull it along in a specific direction. These systems are ideal for moving items from one location to another quickly and efficiently, especially when there is a need to constantly change direction or reroute items in transit. For example, an ATT can be used to transport items through an airport terminal between gates or baggage claim areas. The system can also be used to transport goods from one side of the airport terminal to another without stopping at each gate or baggage carousel along the way.

Robotic Forklifts

Robotic Forklift Systems are typically installed inside warehouses where they can be programmed to follow certain paths while carrying boxes or other objects on their forks. This type of system is ideal for customers who need more than two or three forklifts

Unit load AGVs

These are used to transport large loads on pallets and other platforms. They can be used in warehouses and distribution centers where there is a need for high-level accuracy and reliability. They are also often used in manufacturing plants and factories.

 

Applications of AGV Robot Warehouse

AGVs are used in industrial environments to transport materials from one point to another. They are used in warehouses for a variety of purposes, including:

  • Bulk material handling (i.e., palletizing), as well as for single unit transport (i.e., pick-and-place)
  • Goods transportation

  • Automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRSs)

In an AGV, a computer controls the movement of the vehicle and its components. The computer receives input from sensors, such as lasers and cameras, to determine where the AGV is located and how far it needs to travel. The AGV then moves along a predetermined route using either a track or wheels.

Challenges With AGV Technology

While they can reduce workplace injuries and accidents, AGVs can also cause injury if they malfunction or collide with people or objects. Hence, it’s important to ensure that workers are trained on how to use them properly.

Maintenance

AGVs have moving parts that require regular oiling and cleaning to keep running smoothly. If you don’t maintain them properly, they could break down or stop functioning altogether — which means lost productivity for your business.
